Freedom

Freedom- In the new world society freedom does not truly exist. Society does not accept people who are different from the majority of people in society. Freedom does not exist in the form of social classes. Each person in society is conditioned to become a member of one of the 5 classes. Once someone is conditioned to be a member of one of those classes they cannot move up to a different class. This causes lack of motivation for individuals in society.
Happiness versus Truth

Happiness versus Truth- The leaders of the new world society think that it is better for people to have happiness than to be exposed to the truth about everything that goes on in the new world. They believe that social stability leads to happiness and that the less that people know the better. A clear example of hiding the truth from people in society is the fact that people are not allowed to read books or material about history as this would expose them to radical beliefs. People in the new world are also distracted by the drug soma. Soma is a drug that is used throughout the new world to cause people to be happy by using hallucinations. This distracts people from reality and causes some people to be only in a euphoric state. An example of the use of soma is when Linda comes back to the new world from the savage reservation. Linda is so desperate to take soma that she immediately wants to take it the minute that she gets to the new world. The soma alleviates her pain from suffering and causes her to have happy hallucinations. Soma is very addicting and eventually leads Linda to the abuse of soma and constant use of it.
Dystopia

Dystopia- The new world society as well as the savage reservation society are forms of dystopias. The new world society is a dystopia because dehumanization occurs and it is a society that is high-tech and very futuristic. It dehumanizes society by prohibiting people from having children and having emotional relationships with others in society. On the other end of the spectrum the savage reservation is a dystopia because people live in an uncivilized manner and is not desirable to live in.
Identity

Identity- People in the new world society cannot develop an identity because people of the same class function the same and do not have true values such as family or relationships with one another. There are multiples of one type of person and people often times have the same last name because there are not enough last names to be given to people in society. People do not express themselves individually but identify themselves based on the class that they are in.
