Background information
Brave New World is a futuristic novel that was written in 1932 by Aldous Huxley. The book begins in London, England in the Hatching and Conditioning Center where all humans are created. Humans are not born into the world by natural birth any longer and the Hatching and Conditioning Center is where all artificial creation of humans takes place. The Director of the facility is giving a tour to a group of individuals and is explaining the process of how human embryos are created. Thousands of embryos are created in the facility constantly. When each of the embryos is "born" they are chosen to be in different classes. The classes in order are Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta, and Epsilon. Each of the different people in the classes are conditioned into the class that they are chosen for. Alphas are conditioned to be leaders and the other classes below the Alpha's have less strength and are not as intelligent. The way in which infants are conditioned is horrible in today's view because the infants are taught to not associate themselves with things such as books. This conditioning is done by shocking the infants and causes them great pain. The goal of the conditioning is to cause the lower classes to become fearful of books or things that would allow them to become intelligent. The goal of the new world society is to have people in different classes so there can be a stable and productive society. People in the lower classes can not move up to a different class. This is taught to them through the conditioning and causes them to not want to move up to a different class simply because they do not know any better. This allows society to be free of conflict and have little to no social problems throughout society.
